If you feed your dog daily, shouldn’t you train your dog daily?
We all know how important it is to nourish the mind and body. You would never forget to feed your dog. That would be unconscionable and inhumane. However, some of us, sometimes, seem to forget to train our dogs. Why? Perhaps we do not have the time, or we do not know what to train to. Fortunately, there is an answer for both of these questions. Every day, you feed your dog twice, or even three times for a puppy. That means you have two or three times, every day, to train your dog. As to what to train to, that is even easier….anything your want! You can train recall with a hearty jackpot meal at the end. Improve your sit-stay or down-stay using the meal as the reward. For those energetic door greeters, establish a strong “Go to your Bed” cue. You can play the best game of “Find it” even when they have to find their food bowl or food-puzzle-toy stuffed with yummy frozen canned food. I could go on but I think you get the picture. You have opportunities every day to train your dog in seconds. So take advantage of meal times as training moments and have a happier, more well trained dog as a result.
