Words of Woofdom
Exercising your Canine’s Minds and Body can be challenging in snowy or very warm weather. Below are 3 fun games you can play in the house and are lots of fun!
1). Play Find it– This is a mentally and physically stimulating game you can play with your canine. Place a treat in front of your canine and say, “find it!” After a few repetitions, place the treat further a way and again say the words “find it!” Then gradually make it harder and harder by placing the treats at different height levels, under things, and in different rooms of the house. Eventually you can have your canine wait in another room in a sit stay while you go hide the yummy treats. This is not only fun but strengthens that sit stay! Just keep track of the treats; you don’t want a unfound treat to stay hidden for too long.
2). Recall– This game requires two humans. One human is at one end of the house or on another floor and the other is at the opposite side of the house. Use your recall word to have him/her come to you. Call your canine back and forth reward him/her with a tasty treat. This not only strengthens your canines recall but is also physically stimulating.
3). Hide and Seek– Ask you canine to sit and stay. You go to another room and hide then call your canine to you. When your canine finds you, reward him or her with a tasty treat and or praise. This game will also strengthen your canines sit-stay.
