What is Absent Pet Parent Training?
Absent Pet Parent Training is for the busy pet parent or those who are away for a time (pet sitting with training). We take care of the training while the pet parent is not present for the majority of the sessions. We go to your home or you bring your dog to our studio, to be trained in your absence. First, we will meet with you and your dog to create a customized training plan. This plan includes your goals for training. We will then teach your dog the new behaviors outlined on the training plan during the 2 or more times per week we train, for one to four hours per session. Once your dog knows the new behaviors, we schedule periodic “learning transfer” sessions with you, so we can show you how to continue the behaviors we taught your dog.
Although Pet Parents are absent for the majority of the training sessions, they are crucial to the success of the training. As the saying goes “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” This applies for dog training. It is the Pet Parent’s responsibility to enforce and follow through with the training and homework exercises. The first and last session will be with the dog and pet parent present.
