Loose Leash Walking
Do you walk your dog or does he walk you? Many dogs have a high prey drive or are easily distracted by the scents, sounds and sights around them, leading them to lead you. The best way to get your canine companion to walk on a loose leash is to make sure being with you is more fun than pulling and that pulling gets him nowhere. If your pooch pulls in one direction, turn around and go in the other until he leaves whatever it is, alone. Once he does, then he can go in that direction. This way, the reward for not pulling is what he wanted in the first place. This is but one of many methods you can use to get your canine companion to walk calmly next to you. Loose leash walking should be so easy, even a 3 year old should be able to walk your dog.
