Words of Woofdom – Documentation
Over the years, we have realized that it is really helpful if pet parents take a few minutes to document concerns, progress, or anything significant over time. This documentation helps when working on their canine’s behaviors. In this way, pet parents can see the progress they have made and not forget significant occurrences. When working with certain behaviors, such as separation anxiety, it can sometimes feel like watching hair grow. Keeping documentation helps you see the progress made.
Documentation also helps with other behavior concerns such as leash reactivity and fear aggression. For these types of behaviors it is helpful to identify trends, what the dog is fearful of, or what triggers your dog. It is of course helpful to note when something is working or not working. We know that life is busy and this may be one more thing to be done, but jotting down a few short notes can make a big difference.
This documentation can be done in any notebook. We like and endorse the Komtrak refillable notebook. They come in 3 sizes, pocket size, 8½ X 11 or 8 ½ X 5 ½. Visit our store to purchase one today. If you like phone applications, the Dog Log Book is one that can be used to record this, and lots of other information, such as medical records.
